Since the Yankees have sealed their 28th World Series championship, Selig felt it was necessary to let the other, obviously inferior teams, vie for something worthwhile.

“I just want to say congratulations to the New York Yankees for winning their 28th World Series,” said Commissioner Selig. “On that note, I’d also like to wish the best of the luck to the rest of baseball for this year’s secondary World Series. After much discussion, we here at Major League Baseball feel that there should actually be something to play for this season. Let the real competition begin!”

“We’re going to be competitive for that secondary World Series,” said Boston Red Sox manager Terry Francona. “While it’s painful to acknowledge that the Yankees have already won the real World Series, our boys are still excited to actually compete again.”

The secondary World Series will be a more normal version then the former, encouraging all teams besides the Yankees to compete in a yearlong competition, ending in an unpredictable playoffs, and fairly matched championship. When asked if the second World Series would be breaking baseball tradition, Selig replied, “Sometimes when the game has become so drastically uneven, it’s necessary to tinker with the rules so that the other perfectly normal teams don’t feel like they’ve completely wasted their time playing baseball.”
