Article, Sports, Baseball, MLB, Detroit Tigers, Cleveland Indians, Jason Donald, Perfect Game, Jim Joyce, Umpire, Armando Galarraga, Almost PerfectIn baseball news, Cleveland Indians infielder Jason Donald made history yesterday with a questionable infield single, breaking up what could have been a perfect game by umpire Jim Joyce. While Joyce had called an absolutely perfect game through eight-and-two-thirds innings against the Detroit Tigers--and for the better part of his career for that matter--the lightly hit ball by Donald led to what could have been a pretty standard day in most umpire's lives.

"It could have been a perfect game," said the disgruntled Joyce. "I know that everyone out there thought I would call a perfect game, but I guess it's just gonna have to wait. I'm looking forward to getting back on the field tomorrow, making my calls, and trying my best to get that perfect game."

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, if Joyce had called a perfect game, it would have been just the 501,137th perfect game by an umpire in Major League Baseball history.
